The Austin girls' soccer team pieced together its first winning streak of the season with its second consecutive shutout victory, a 5-0 Big Nine Conference win at Mankato East Tuesday night

Senior midfielder Lia Middlebrook scored two of Austin's five goals, running Austin's record to 4-9 overall and 3-8 in the Big Nine Conference. The Packers pounded host Faribault 6-0 last Thursday.

Austin's hopes of a third consecutive victory stay on the road at Caledonia Thursday night. The Warriors defeated the Pack in the second regular-season match back in August.

Emily Lorenzen scored a goal for the second consecutive game, while Megan Nace and Jenna Benson also helped the Packers onto the scoreboard.

A 30-minute delay due to lightning in the Mankato area forced the Packers to wait before adding to their 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the match. Austin added a goal after play resumed and went into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.

Stephanie Eslinger had assists on two of three second-half Packer goals, all of which came within the first 20 minutes of the final 40.

In addition to Thursday's trip to Caledonia, the Packers are at home Saturday with Winona.
