The Hayfield boys' and girls' cross country teams took to the hills at the Zumbro Golf Course Friday afternoon in Kasson, collecting a pair of top-half team finishes in the process.

The Vikings girls, en route to a third-place finish, were paced by Sara Halverson. The junior three-time state qualifier captured the first-place trophy with a time of 16 minutes 11 seconds. Heather Williams gave chase and came in 12th.

Hayfield's boys contingent came in fourth as a team. Bryan Oelkers led the way with a ninth-place finish, followed by John Rasmussen in 16th and Noah Hamer in 17th.

The Vikings next run Tuesday at Lake City and Saturday in Winona.
