Police Chief Brian Krueger is urging Austin residents to lock their bicycles when they are unattended.
Krueger said Wednesday morning that there has been a “rash of bike thefts” throughout Austin recently, including four stolen in one day last weekend. The Austin Police Department is seeing one to two thefts per day on average, Krueger said.
“Just a reminder, if they are taking their bikes, to lock them up,” he said. “Be leery of bicycles because people are taking them.”
Hot spots include the Austin Municipal Swimming Pool and Austin Public Library, where children frequently leave their bikes unattended and unlocked.
