The celebration of the life of Evelyn Stehley will be held, Monday, July 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 1st Street SE Hayfield, Minn., with Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Evelyn died July 13, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester at the age of 96. She was born on March 8, 1915, the daughter of Emil and Bertha (Evjen) Postels in Hayfield. Evelyn attended Hayfield High School, Mankato Teachers College and Winona State. Evelyn was united in marriage to Clarence Russell Stehley on March 29, 1941, in Sumner, Iowa.

Evelyn began teaching in 1940, in Eyota, Minn., retiring in 1980 from the Hayfield Public Schools. She loved teaching and touched many lives. Evelyn enjoyed playing basketball and tennis in younger years, loved music, and played piano by ear. She was an avid ‘fisher woman’ and bridge player, but mostly loved sharing time with her family. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Evelyn is survived by two sons; three daughters and their families. Jon (Shirlean) Stehley, Cameron, Wis., and children, Eric, Ryan and Aimee; James (Gloria) Stehley, McFarland, Wis., and children, Jennifer, Ethan and Zachary; Pam (Walter) Pappas, Rochester, and children, Patrick, Ellie and Anne; Michelle (Robert) Buss, Little Chute, Wis., and children, Tamara, Tiffany, Trisha and Joshua; Kim (Russell) Harwood, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and children, Krissa, Charles and Beth.

She is further survived by 16 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, especially Al Unger of Racine, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; sister, Ione Cornwell; brother, Raymond Postels.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11 a.m. service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Hayfield High School Piano fund or Trinity Lutheran Church.
