Arlene B. Anderson, 78

Arlene B. Anderson, 78, of rural Fountain, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

She was born July 20, 1923, in Grand Meadow, to Clarence and Ida (Anderson) Fox.

On Dec. 12, 1941, she married Harris Anderson at the parsonage in Grand Meadow.

The couple farmed in the Grand Meadow area and Arlene worked as a homemaker. In 1954, they moved to rural Fountain. Harris died in 1980.

Arlene was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide, and belonged to a Birthday and Secret Pal Club. She liked dogs, enjoyed outside activities and also collected chicken ornaments.

Survivors include sisters, Betty Brandt, Grand Meadow; June (Darrell) Freeman, Spring Valley; brother, Jack (Elsie) Fox, Racine; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Gerald "Butch"; parents; and brother, Ervin Fox.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with Rev. Kevin Woestehoff officiating.

Interment: Watson Creek Cemetery, rural Preston.

Funeral Home: Thauwald Funeral Home, Preston.

Arnold E. Syverud, 82

Arnold E. Syverud, 82, of Rochester, formerly of rural Austin, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

He was born June 12, 1920, in Lansing Township, to John and Agnethe (Kopperud) Syverud.

He attended District 72 Joint School in Lansing Township. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Red Oak Lutheran Church.

He farmed the family farm in Lansing Township with his brother, Carl, until the farm was sold in 1976. After the sale of the farm, he moved to Rochester where he worked at Libby's during the pea and corn season until his retirement.

While living in Rochester, he was an associate member of Hosanna Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed traveling, especially after his retirement.

Survivors include brother, Arthur (Mildred) Syverud, Blooming Prairie; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl; and sisters, Clara Noble, Justina Drews and Olga Johnson.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with Rev. Bruce Falksen officiating.

Interment: Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery.

Ellen J. Oldre, 68

Ellen J. Oldre, age 68, of Rochester, died on Friday, July 19, 2002, at her home as the result of cancer.

Ellen Jean Fisk was born on June 13, 1934, in Brown County, to Clarence and Susie (Wright) Fisk.

She attended school in Adams and attended the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.

She was married to Kermit Oldre on Nov. 7, 1953, at Carlsbad, Calif. and, following their marriage, the couple lived in California before returning to southeast Minnesota in 1956. They farmed around the area until 1987. During this time, Ellen owned and operated Alpha Bridals. After retiring from the farm, she spent several years working in motel management before final retirement in 1998.

She was a member of Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church and enjoyed sewing, antiques and gardening.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Kermit Oldre, of Rochester; four daughters, Susan (Ron) Wilhelm, of Chicago, Ill.; Sheryl (Mitchel) Schultz, of Holmen, Wis.; Sandra (Ron) Miller, of Rochester; and Sonja Oldre, of Valentine, Neb.; two sons, Steven (Yvonne) Oldre, of New Ulm; and Scott Oldre, of Wildomar, Calif.; one sister, Sharon (Donald) Smith, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her parents; one sister, Lola Dobda; and one brother, Loren Fisk preceded her in death.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home and one hour preceding services on Tuesday at the church.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Wilbur Beckendorf officiating. Kevin Carr will be organist and provide the music. Casketbearers will be Peder Dressel, Hank Eyrich, Floyd Albee, Bob Sokol, Grant Bodwin and Terry Schardt.

Interment: Wednesday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
