Dale Merrill Stanton, 89

Dale Merril Staton, 89, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, formerly of Austin, died Monday, July 6, 2002, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

He was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Newton, Iowa, to Clead and Fannie (Houseman) Stanton.

He married Anna Josephine Pell Jan. 20, 1937.

He was a life-long farmer in the London and Myrtle area of Freeborn County.

He enjoyed farming, playing cards and socializing with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Naurice and Glen.

Survivors include brothers, Wayne (Opal) Stanton, New Hampton, Iowa; Donald (Olga) Stanton, Austin; Gerald (Beverly) Stanton, Minnetonka; Loren (Roberta) Stanton, Austin; Norman (Susan) Stanton, Hartsdale, NY; sister-in-law, Irene Stanton, San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Holly Young, Eugene, Ore.; Lois (John) Hunting, Grandview, Wash.; nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, July 10, 2002, at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, at Hayward Lutheran Church with Rev. John R. Malm and Rev. Norman Stanton officiating. Casket bearers will be James Benesh Sr.; James Benesh, Jr.; Emil Prantner; Ed Prantner; Dick Madson and Lou Larson.

Interment: Bohemian National Cemetery, Myrtle.

Elmer N. Erie, 88

Elmer N. Erie, 88, of LeRoy, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at the Adams Health Care Center.

He was born Jan. 20, 1914, in Lodi Township, to Henry and Emma (Larson) Erie.

On Dec. 21, 1938 he married Inez Pearl Peterson in Nashua, Iowa.

He farmed from many years in the LeRoy area and later worked for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical as a salesman before his retirement.

He was a member of the LeRoy Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the cemetery board and church council.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou (Larry) Ihns, LeRoy; son Wayne (Bonnie) Erie, Rochester; four grandchildren and sister-in-law Pearl Erie, LeRoy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Raymond; five brothers and two sisters.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the funeral home and on Friday for one hour before the service.

Service: 10 a.m., Friday, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating.

Interment:

LeRoy Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Alice Marie Schwartz, 98

Alice Marie Schwartz, 98, of Austin died Monday, July 8, 2002, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

She was born April 21, 1904 to Ole and Carrie (Werdahl) Barsness in Goodhue County.

She married Arndt Jacobson in 1922, and in the 1940s they moved to Austin.

Arndt died in 1951 and in 1961 Alice married William Schwartz.

She enjoyed flowers, made afghans, ceramics and other craft items, often winning ribbons at the fair.

Survivors include six grandchildren, Judy Rietmann of Pine Island; Gary Lee of Zumbrota; Steve Lee of Temecula, Calif.; Ken Lee of Zumbrota; Jerry Lee of Zumbrota; Cindy Lindquist of Blooming Prairie; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Dube of Faribault; Marcia Sonnenberg of Holbrook, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Dona Jacobson of Longmont, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; sons, Donald Jacobson and Sherrill Jacobson; daughter, Arlene Lee; grandson, Lynn Jacobson; brothers and sisters.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service, Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the funeral home.

Service: 2 p.m., Thursday, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russell Wangen officiating. Casket bearers will be Gary Lee, Steve Lee, Jerry Lee, Stan Lindquist, Cody Lindquist and Steve Wohlfeil.

Internment: Oakwood Cemetery.
