Sparks fly

An apparent transcription error occurred Monday, when Dan Sparks, Austin, filed for the Senate District 27 seat.

Initially, Sparks' filing was as a Republican. Sparks is the DFL Party's endorsed candidate for the Senate seat.

When Sparks' name appeared among the Senate district 27 filings as a member of the GOP Party, it caught the attention of many, who were surging the Minnesota Secretary of State's web site and tracking other filings.

Sparks said it was a mistake by the Secretary of State's office and later Monday, his name appeared among the filings as a DFL candidate. Sen. Grace Schwab, R-Albert Lea, is seeking reelection to the Senate District 27 office.
