It's been a tradition now for quite some time.

And if you're a former or current resident of Brownsdale, you're invited to the party.

Sunday marks the 73rd annual Brownsdale Potluck Picnic. And, yes, spouses are invited.

Pearl Brennan, of Austin, said the festival is a time for many present and former Brownsdale residents to reminisce on the latest news in that community.

The festival has continued throughout the years and there's only been a few minor changes.

"Usually, we recognize those who passed away in the past year. Now, we just mostly visit," Brennan said. "We'd like to get some younger folks there. It's not just for the old folks."

And Brennan said there's no reason to worry about the summertime heat.

"It's going to be at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and it's air-conditioned in there," she said.

Picnic participants are asked to bring something to share at the dinner table. "Hot dish, salad, sandwiches, dessert. The beverages will be provided," she said.

The event starts at 1 p.m. at the church, located at 411 Main St. West in Brownsdale. For information, call 433-6400.

There's also a slew of events associated with Freedom Fest in the Heartland in Austin. One that may be of interest to folks of all ages is hearing the Austin Community Band. The group will give a free performance at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Bandshell Park.
