Two Austin players contribute to state softball title

Two Austin softball players helped their team win a U16 Minnesota Metro League Faspitch State title Saturday.
Danielle Tschann, a catcher, and Jenni Yocom, a pitcher, play for an Eagan squad that went 5-0 over the weekend and beat Waconia 8-3 in the MMFL state title game.
With the win, Eagan advances to the North American Fastpitch Association National Tournament, which will be held in Shoreview, Minn. July 27-31.
Tschann, who went 2-for-3 in the title game, knocked in a two runs with a first inning single and drove in another run with a single in the third inning.
Yocom picked up the win on the mound as she struck out seven, while allowing six hits, two walks and one earned run.
On its way to the title, Eagan beat the Monticello Magic 9-4, topped West Side 4-3, beat Wayzata 4-1 and beat Waconia 9-5.
In those four games, Tschann went 9-for-13 with two doubles, four RBIs and one walk, while throwing out two runners.
Yocom picked up two wins and a save in that span, while striking out 17. She allowed just two earned runs the entire tournament.
Tschann and Yocom each received game balls.
