That's how Weaver described the information he is submitted to the state of Minnesota.

The state wants to know what the county is doing about solid waste and recycling.

Mower County is the agency responsible for the proper disposal of waste materials.

According to Weaver, the county's solid waste materials have been trucked to a sanitary landfill at Lake Mills, Iowa by Waste Management Inc., which operates the Austin Transfer Station.

The county has its own recycling program and also operates a household hazardous waste program of its own.

Weaver's report to state officials will continue detailed accounts of all the county efforts and also offer how the county is attempting to prepare for a possible contingency.

"Freeborn County is interested in a food waste composing facility," Weaver told the Mower County Board of Commissioners Tuesday.

"They have several food processing plants over there and they are examining how such a facility could help the situation. They have also contacted us about our possible interest in such a facility."

The county board's solid waste committee reviewed Weaver's proposed plan and gave it their recommendation for approval.

On Tuesday, the county board formally adopted the plan and approved it for submission to state officials.

In other action Tuesday, the county commissioners approved

low bids from PCI, Inc. for bridge deck overlay work on two bridges over the Cedar River in the City of Austin along North and South Main Street.

The firm's low bid of $293,342 was the low of two bids submitted for the work.

Michael Hanson, county engineer, assured the commissioners, the work will not begin until after the Freedom Fest activities in early July.
