Evelyn Myrtle Kos, 87
Evelyn M. Kos, 87, of Northwood, Iowa, formerly of Myrtle, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, Iowa.
She was born July 4, 1914, to Arthur Joseph and Frances (Cafourek) Baley in London Township. She was baptized at the First Methodist Church in Austin and attended the Benesh and Myrtle Schools.
She was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge #38 in Austin, the Mother's Club and the Neighborhood Birthday Club. She was one of the organizers of the Myrtle Museum.
She liked gardening and baking kolaches.
Survivors include children, Ron Kos, Austin; Fran Nelson, Northwood; Wayne (Barb) Kos, Lutsen; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Georgia Oxley, Austin; brothers, Archie (Mildred) Baley, Austin; Robert (Donna) Baley, Glenville; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; son-in-law, Dale Nelson; three brothers in infancy; three grandchildren.
Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2002, at and Monday for one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Service: 2 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Daniel Baker officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

Gertrude E. Toth, 80
Gertrude E. Toth, 80, of Austin, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
She was born July 24, 1921.
She married James Toth. She worked as a dietary aide.
Survivors include daughters, Patti Toth, Austin; Trudy Mueller, Owatonna; two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Toth.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Service: 11 a.m. memorial service, Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Crane Community Chapel with Pastor Randy Petersen officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery.

John J. "Jack" Chihak, 64
John J. "Jack" Chihak, 64, of Austin, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at his home.
He was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Cresco, Iowa, to Clarence and Betty (Coppin) Chihak.
He graduated from Pacelli High School in 1955.
He worked for Hormel foods in the corporate office and retired in 1999 after 36 years.
During his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, other outdoor activities and sports. During his retirement he enjoyed reading and trivia. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, American Legion and a lifetime member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughter, Carrie Allen, Austin; sons, Mike and Sue Chihak, Burt, Iowa; James and Molly Chihak, Madison, Wis.; John and Heidi Chihak, Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren; mother, Betty Whalen, Austin; sisters, Kathleen Veverka, Lombard, Ill.; Mary and Arden King, Austin; Beverly and Tom Brown, Aberdeen S.D.; Colleen and Joe Chihak-Urbassik, Palo Alto, Calif.; brother, William Chihak, Lakewood, Calif.; step-brother, Mike and Sue Whalen, Edgewood, Ky.; step-sisters, Connie and Casey LaVelle, Falls Church, Va.; Sharlene and John Remmel, Woodbury.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian; father, Clarence; stepfather, Thomas Whalen.
Visitation: Following the service.
Service: 1 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2002, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Ethel M. Johnson, 90
Ethel M. Johnson, 90, formerly of Austin, died Nov. 25, 2001, at her home in Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Brainerd.
She lived in Fairmont until moving to Austin and then to Port Charlotte in 1986.
Survivors include husband, C. Donald Johnson, Port Charlotte, Fla.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Judith Winters, Naples, Fla.; Ida Anderson, Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen Fredstrom Nolan.
