Jack Charles Yauger, 76

Jack Charles Yauger, 76, of Austin, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Hayfield of cancer.

He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Fort Worth, Texas to Lines M. and Bessie Pottorff Yauger.

He moved to Austin in 1931 where he graduated from Austin High and Austin Vocational School.

He joined the Navy in 1943, serving in the Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1946. He served in the Korean War.

On Oct. 23, 1949, he married Darlene Hatfield at First United Methodist Church in Austin.

He was employed at Hormel Foods Corporation as a mechanic until retirement in 1984 and at the Cedar River Country Club.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include wife, Darlene, Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jim Locke, Hayfield; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cherry Yauger, Le Center; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Arnold Dahl, Wabasha; Robert Hatfield, Austin; Ronald and Virginia Hatfield, Austin; sisters-in-law, Pauline Hoff, Austin; Joan and Richard List, Austin; Betty and Ralph Farley, Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Emma Belle and Mary; brothers, Alen and Lewis.

Service: 10:30 a.m. graveside service, Friday, May 10, 2002, at the cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Bauer, 95

Dorothy M. Bauer, 95, of Austin, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

She was born Nov. 27, 1906, in Austin to John and Dora (Dovenberg) Furtney.

On May 30, 1933, she married to Henry J. Bauer at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.

She was a homemaker and loved to sew and knit afghans.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Robert Schreiner, Austin; Judy and Norb Ellis, Sandstone; Nancy and Bob Kucera, Duluth; Ruth and Bob Dalquist, Charlotte, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother.

Visitation: Was 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, with a 5 p.m. CCW rosary and a 7 p.m. wake service and Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Service: Was 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Harry Jewison officiating. Casket bearers were Dorothy's grandchildren.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Derwin "Dewey" Sigurd Dahl, 84

Derwin "Dewey" Sigurd Dahl, 84, of Glenville, formerly of Northwood, Iowa, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

He was born on March 10, 1918, in Decorah, Iowa, to Dr. Sigurd and Imo (Zachery) Dahl. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received his education in Manly.

On July 20, 1941, he married Dora Geneva Loland in LeCenter.

Dewey farmed all his life in the Manly area before moving to Northwood in 1989. In 1998, he moved to Glenville.

On Nov. 11, 2000, he married Lila Ellingson at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood.

Dewey enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, wintering in Phoenix, Mesa and Apache Junction, Ariz. since 1981, playing cards, dancing and visiting with friends at the coffee shop and senior citizens center.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, former member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, Isaac Walton League in Kensett, Eagles Club in Albert Lea, Glenville Senior Citizen Center, and the Stateline Stinkers and Riverside Neighborhood Club, both in Glenville.

Survivors include wife, Lila Dahl, Glenville; children, Donavon (Janey) Dahl, Phoenix, Ariz.; LaVern (Tanya) Dahl, Mason City, Iowa; Imogene (Paul) Woodhouse, Albert Lea; step-children, Donna (Bruce) Mittag, Glenville; Connie (Larry) Thompson, Glenville; LeRoy (Kathy) Ellingson, Clemson, S.C.; LaDon (Kim Johnson) Ellingson, Glenville; four grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Dora Dahl, in August 1996.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., today, May 9, 2002, at the Bride Colonial Chapel in Manly and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood with the Revs. Paul Holmer and Allan Stoa officiating.

Interment: Kensett Cemetery.

Elmer John Laue, 91

Elmer J. Laue, 91, of Fairmont, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Fairmont Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 7, 1910, in Tenhassen Township, to A.C. and Wilhelmina (Tesnow) Laue.

He grew up in the Wilbert area and attended St. Paul's Lutheran School in Wilbert. After his schooling, he worked for area farmers

On Sept. 9, 1934, he married Laura Reiman in Estherville, Iowa. They farmed in Lake Belt Township for many years before retiring in 1972. They moved to Fairmont in the spring of 1976. Laura died Sept. 6, 1976.

On Sept. 22, 1979, Elmer married Frieda Cordes in Blue Earth and they made their home in Fairmont. Frieda died Nov. 10, 1985.

Elmer was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont and a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ceylon.

He enjoyed restoring antique tractors.

Survivors include son, Roger (Roseann) Laue, Austin; daughter, Carol (Dennis) Madsen, Fairmont; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, John Laue, Waukesha, Wis.; Fred (Lottie) Laue, Imogene; Clarence (Luzzi) Laue, Armstrong; sisters, Margaret Reiman, Ceylon; Lillian Westphal, Fairmont; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by first wife, Laura Laue; second wife, Frieda Laue; two infant sons; sisters, Dora Speckman and Luella Reiman; brothers, Adolph, Dick and Bill Laue.

Visitation: Was 4:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the funeral home and today at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m., today, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont.

Interment: Lake Belt Township Cemetery, Ceylon.

Margaret A. Nerad, 88

Margaret A. Nerad, 88, of Glenville died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Dec. 18, 1913, on a farm south of Hayward to Casper and Frances (Belshan) Kycek. She attended Glenville High School until she had to drop out due to scarlet fever.

She worked on the farm until 1934 when she married Frank Nerad and they settled near Myrtle. When her mother died later that year, the couple moved back to the family farm to care for her eight younger brothers and sisters. In 1950, Margaret and her family moved to Myrtle. During her 50 years at Myrtle, she worked at Munsingwear in Albert Lea, the Myrtle Locker, the Myrtle Elementary School as a janitor and substitute cook, the Myrtle Pizza Factory and Land-O-Lakes in Albert Lea.

She enjoyed gardening and raising chickens, ducks and geese. She canned and processed food, sewed her children's clothing, worked in the fields, and milked and took care of the separator. She had excellent cooking and baking skills.

She was a member of the Mother's Club in District #35 and WFLA Lodge #44 near Myrtle were she sang with a group of women and danced the Besada (a Czech folkdance). She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Glenville.

Survivors include daughters Marcella (Lowell) Nelson, Glenville; Ann Marie (Richard) Day, Bemidji; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie (Joe) Pacovsky, Glenville; brother, Casper Kycek, Hayward.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents; infant sister, Frances; sister, Mary; brothers, Frank, Victor, Richard, Ernest and Leonard.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., today, May 9, 2002, at the funeral home and Friday for one hour before the service at the church.

Service: 11 a.m., Friday, at First Lutheran Church in Glenville with the Rev. Mark Wendland officiating.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery.

William S. Hueman, 93

William S. Hueman, 93, of Adams, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea.

He was born

Aug. 9, 1908, in Lodi, to Matt and Anna (Winkel) Hueman.

He attended country school in Taopi and spent most of his life in the Adams area.

On Feb. 22, 1933, he married Ruby Anderson in Austin.

He worked several years at the Hormel Foods Corp.

He enjoyed playing cards, dancing to polka music and working on his hobby farm.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Adams.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Clarice and Herman King, Rochester; Louise and Loren Monson, LeRoy; LaVonne and Jerome Landherr, Adams; LaDonna Huemen, Austin; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Hueman, Blooming Prairie; Richard and Linda Hueman, Adams; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-granchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Grace and Roland Ross, Adams; Lillian and Kenneth Sprau, Austin; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Raymond Hueman; grandsons, Kevin and Mark King; great-granddaughter, Katlin King and son-in-law, Vernon Mullenbach.

Visitation: 4 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2002, at the funeral home with a 5 p.m. prayer service and a 7 p.m. rosary by the Knights of Columbus Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Service: 11 a.m., Saturday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Casket bearers will be James Hueman, Mitch Hueman, Dan King, Brad King, David King and Ray Monson.

Interment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Adams.

Louise Elizabeth Wood, 83

Louise Elizabeth Wood, 83, of Austin, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Austin Medical Center.

She was born, April 2, 1919, in Dodge Center to Alexander and Bertha (Schuck) Weir.

She graduated from Austin High School in 1936.

In October 1937, she married Willard Wood.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, UMW and enjoyed her involvement with the annual bazaar and chicken and biscuit luncheon.

Two years ago, the couple moved from their home to the St. Marks Apartments and she was a resident of St. Marks Lutheran Home more recently.

Survivors include husband; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sharen Wood, Apple Valley; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.

Visitation: 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2002, at the church.

Service: 11 a.m., Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Patricia Toschak officiating. Organist will be Ruth Monson and soloist will be Debbie King Quale.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Dodge Center.
