Tom Mullenbach had a dream the night before bids were opened a second time for a new multi-purpose building in Adams.

The dream, Mullenbach told city officials, was that a bid would come in under budget.

When bids were opened at Adams City Hall last Thursday, one bid met the minimum qualification.

Wagner Construction Inc. of Austin bid $401,300 to construct a new multi-purpose building on the east edge of Adams.

That's the amount budgeted for the building by the Adams City Council, which meets Tuesday night to formally accept the bid and let a contract for the project.

Five bids were submitted. RCR Construction of Albert Lea was a close second to the low bid with $403,281.

J.D. Driver Construction of rose Creek bid $429,000; Larson construction of Albert Lea bid $444,000 and Cornick Construction, Albert Lea bid $473,000.

The project was rebid last week after the original round of bidding exceeded the budget.

City officials trimmed the project and took out a paved parking lot before the rebidding.

The new building will house

the Adams Fire Department and Adams Area Ambulance Service.

Adams Township will share the building with the city departments. The township never had a township hall of its own in the 145 year history of the government unit.

The project is being funded by taxes approved at a referendum of city voters and a $50,000 contribution from Adams Township.

According to Jim Kiefer, Adams city clerk, the contract calls for the project to be completed within 160 days of city council approval.
