Albert Lea escapes with non-conference win over rival Austin

A weather-related rescheduling left Thursday's golf dual with Albert Lea a non-conference affair, but the Austin boys' team would still have liked a victory.
The host Tigers escaped its own inconsistency with a 323-329 victory at Green Lea Golf Course, getting two sub-80 rounds to help lead the way.
Neither score was good enough to beat the Packers' Adam Plotts, however, who carded medalist honors with a 3-over par round of 75. His nearest help was a pair of 83s from Jon Bain and Matt Ball, and Chad Peterson chipped in an 88 to the final Packer tally.
"Tonight should have been a victory for us," said Austin coach Corey Haugen. "Adam continues to work and lower his stroke average. With him bringing home medalist honors again tonight, we should have finished ahead of Albert Lea."
The Packers (2-4, 2-3) will have time to prepare its short game for Tuesday's Big Nine Conference triangular at Owatonna with Rochester John Marshall.
