Blooming Prairie hosted Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in a Gopher Conference baseball matchup Monday night, showing no mercy to their visitors as they came away with a 15-4 win.

The Awesome Blossoms put the wood to rawhide resulting in a total of 19 hits in the run-rule shortened five-inning game. The contest was also highlighted by a seven runs crossing the plate during the third and fourth innings for BP.

Tom Farr and Aaron McDonald combined to drive in six of the seven runs during the third inning.

Farr had a three-run home run and McDonald hit a bases-clearing double. Lynn Chheang hit a three-run homer in the fourth.

Kraig Olson pitched all five innings, having trouble only in the third inning.

Olson allowed four runs on six hits with only one earned run.

He struck out seven and did not walk any.

David Kramer finished 3-3, Farr was 3-4 at the plate and Ryan Klemmensen was 3-4 as well. Each had at least one RBI and two runs scored. Four other hitters -- Olson, McDonald, Steve Seykora and Brayton Johnson -- had two hits apiece.

"The team is playing very well right now, but we have to stay focused and keep working hard," said BP coach Chris Staloch. "There are still very tough teams out there that we still have to face."

Blooming Prairie is currently riding an eight-game winning streak that reflects a overall record of 8-2 and a conference record of 6-1.

Softball takes 8-2 win

Blooming Prairie broke out to a 4-0 lead after the first half inning and played softball their way for the remainder of an 8-2 Gopher Conference victory Monday at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.

The Blossoms' early lead allowed for the offense to assert its style of slap-hitting, bunt-dropping pressure, putting up four more runs over the course of the final six innings. WEM only assembled two runs in the fourth inning, thanks in great part to Abbey Bergstrom's prolific pitching.

Bergstrom struck out six, walked none, and only allowed two hits in the complete-game victory. Neither of the Buccaneers' two runs were earned as the BP defense committed three errors.

Rachel Stenzel's two-run double in the first inning drove in Amanda Herdina and Bergstrom as the ice-breaking runs, and Hillary Jones' infield grounder forced an error that pushed Stenzel and Kristi Schwake across for BP's 4-0 lead.

Herdina, Bergstrom and Stenzel each finished 2-4 to lead Blooming Prairie's 11-hit attack. Andrea Miller was 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI, Amber Vogt and Long were 1-1, and Maggie Romeo was 1-4.

The Blossoms' next scheduled game is Monday at Alden-Conger. BPHS is 7-4 overall and 6-1 in Gopher Conference.
