Phyllis Mae House, 69

Phyllis Mae House, 69, of Austin, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at her home.

She was born July 19, 1932, to Elmer and Amellia (Tonding) Anderson in Austin.

A lifetime member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, she was baptized and confirmed there and on Aug. 19, 1950, married Francis House.

A retired dietary supervisor at Burr Oak Manor, Phyllis was also manager of Wendy's and a homemaker.

Her activities included bowling and being secretary of bowling leagues for many years, playing cards, traveling and she enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Survivors include husband, Francis House, Austin; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Cecelia House, New Brighton; Michael and Mary House, Rochester; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Paul Meany, Austin; six grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Delmer and Mary Anderson, Austin; sister and brother-in-law, LaVonne and Richard Zrucky, Byron; step sister-in-law, Ann Dixon, Austin; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beverly Anderson; and step-brother, Roger Dixon.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., today, April 10, 2002, at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roberta Flood officiating.

Interment: At a later date.

Estelle Kimball Smith, 80

Estelle Kimball Smith, 80, of Des Moines, Iowa, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, from complications of pneumonia at Kavanagh on 56th.

She was born in Aurelia, Iowa and raised in Austin where she graduated from Austin High School in 1939. From 1957 to 1997, she lived in Clarinda, Iowa and from 1997 to 2002, lived in West Des Moines.

She was a school teacher at Villisca School District until she retired in 1982.

Survivors include son, Tomas Smith, Thibodaux, La.; daughters-in-law, Julie and Marcia Smith; three grandchildren; brother, Paul Kimball, Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael; and daughter, Pat.

Funeral Home: Hamilton's Funeral Home, Des Moines, Iowa.

Memorials: To Hospice of Central Iowa.

Michael A. Nihart Sr., 53

Michael A. Nihart Sr., 53, of Austin, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the Austin Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 15, 1948, in Austin, to Kenneth and Ione (Olstad) Nihart. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Mike worked for Quality Pork Processors and was a member of the Eagles, Legion and the Moose.

He enjoyed Nascar racing, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include parents, Kenneth and Ione Nihart, Austin; sons and daughters-in-law, Timmothy and Stacy Nihart, California; Michael Jr. and Laura Nihart, Green Bay, Wis.; daughter and son-in-law: Michelle and Scott Hendrickson, Medford; eight grandchildren; sister, Barbara A. Flom, Glencoe; nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kermit; grandparents; aunts and uncles.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., today, at the funeral home and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Service: 11 a.m., Thursday, at Crane Community Chapel with Pastor Randy Petersen officiating.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery.
