County honors WIC employee

Positive reinforcement goes a long way in the work place.

Each month, the Mower County Board of Commissioners recognizes the talents of one of its employees.

When dealing with taxpayers, the board knows the importance of customer service.

On Tuesday at its regular meeting, the county commissioners honored Tammy Corey as Mower County Employee of the Month.

Corey, a 12-year veteran employee, works in the Mower County Public Health Nursing offices in the Women, Infant, Children and immunizations department.

Len Miller, 4th district Mower County Commissioner, read plaudits from her supervisors and co-workers for Corey's exemplary skills in the WIC./immunizations office.

Margene Gunderson, Mower County community health services director, praised the vivacious county employee and said the choice was appropriate during Public Health Week.

Gunderson said the honor was "very deserving."

In other action, the county commissioners:

Greeted government and political science classes from Mower County high schools, during County Government Day observances coordinated by Mower County Treasurer Ruth Harris and the county's solid waste program administrator and recycling coordinator Jeff Weaver.

Retained auditor Darwin Viker of the Larson, Allen, Weishair, Colby (LLP) firm to assist in resolving in solving a payroll tax

dispute dating back to 1988 with Mower County Sheriff's Department deputies.

Agreed to request a minimum price of $4,000 fir a 962 GMC panel truck to be sold at an auction of county surplus property Saturday at Earl Hamilton Consignment Auction Service, Dexter

Jim Erickson and Jim Rudd of the Austin – Mower County Police Reserve requested the minimum bid. The vehicle was used by the original Mower County Civil Defense department and has only 12, 000 miles and became a parade-favorite in its latter years, according to Erickson and Rudd.

Agreed to restore a Minnesota Department of Transportation grant application to its original $42,900 amount to facilitate the transfer of administrative responsibilities for Mower County Transit to the Freeborn County Community Action Program. The action will allow all seven employees of the program to be insured.
