Poppe is newest House candidate

Austin City Council member Jeanne Poppe announced today her intention to run for the District 27B seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Austin City Council member Jeanne Poppe announced today her intention to run for the District 27B seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
"I believe the families of our community want legislators who will represent them by supporting quality of life issues – including a commitment to strong schools, quality health care, accessible and affordable housing options, and promoting and restoring economic vitality in our region," Poppe said. "I believe that citizens should expect to be represented by a state legislator who has proven leadership skills and the ability to work well with people. We need to have responsive representation – someone who listens to people and knows how to advocate for them. I believe I have the skills and the ability to serve well the people of our region and that is why I have decided to run."
Poppe, 44, will seek the DFL endorsement.
Poppe is completing her eighth year as an Austin City Council member. She currently serves as chair of the fire committee and she previously served four years as chair of the finance/personnel committee.
Poppe is employed as a career counselor at Riverland Community College and has been active in the League of Women Voters.
"I have enjoyed working in education, human services and with community organizations. My work in local government has been a wonderful learning experience. I have a broad skill base and will work hard for the people of District 27B," Poppe said.
Poppe is a native of southeastern Minnesota and has lived in Austin for the past 19 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and holds a Master of Science degree from Winona State University.
Poppe is married to Bob Vilt and together they have a daughter and two sons.
