Two Austin homes were raided by local authorities Tuesday in searches that uncovered sizable amounts of methamphetamine.
The first search occurred around 7:05 a.m. at a house on the 800 block of Fourth Avenue Northeast. Representatives of the Austin Police Department, Mower County Sheriff’s Department and the Southeast Minnesota Narcotics and Gang Task Force breached the door and found 23 grams of meth, a handgun and drug paraphernalia.
Two men, ages 45 and 25, were home at the time of the search and were apprehended without incident.
Later that morning, at around 8:15 a.m., the same group of law enforcement officials searched a home in the 400 block of Ninth Street Northwest. Twelve grams of meth was seized, as well as drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.
Like with the first search, two individuals were home and were arrested without incident.
Austin police Lt. John Mueller said Wednesday that the searches stemmed from ongoing investigations by the drug task force. He added that, to the best of his knowledge, the two cases are not related.
