The Blue Devils softball team finished their trip to Cocoa Beach Fla. with two wins Thursday.
Sophomore Thenedra Corey knocked home a walk-off single to beat the Ancaster Blizzard 4-3, and the Blue Devils scored seven first inning runs in a 12-7 win against Finger Lakes.
RCC (4-2 overall) had trailed Ancaster 3-1 heading into the seventh, but Mandy May drew a full count walk and Holly Waltz, Jessica Wilde and Laura Meyer all strung together consecutive singles to tie the game up.
“Mandy May’s been a firestarter for us from the nine hole and she came up big with that walk,” RCC head coach Dan Swift said.
RCC led 7-0 after one inning against Finger Lakes, but the Blue Devils had to score five more runs in the last three innings to put it away.
“We tried to do too much and we kicked it around a little,” Swift said.
Swift was pleased with the way his team started the season in Florida.
“When we got the schedule for this, we said that .500 would be pretty good,” he said. “(Going 4-2) was a great way for us to start the year.”
