The NFL is back and it’s time to start getting excited for football. But as the game returns, one of its best has walked away.

I’ll always remember Randy Moss, who announced his retirement Monday, as the rookie who destroyed the Packers in a driving rainstorm on a Monday night at Lambeau Field. Never have I been so afraid of a Vikings’ player in my life.

It was like he had gadget arms and a jet pack as he rose above Packer defenders and made it look like he was a dad playing with his young sons.

The man was quite simply a beast and is probably the most athletically gifted receiver of all time.

As for this season, I’m hearing a lot about the Philadelphia Eagles and them ‘winning’ free agency. First off, there’s no such thing as winning free agency until the season has been played, just like you don’t ‘win’ a draft until at least three years down the road.

All I’m hearing is hype and it got even worse when Vince Young called them a dream team and ESPN personalities compared them to the Miami Heat.

The Eagles signed all but two surefire impact players – cornerback Nnamdi Asomugah and Cullen Jenkins. One of those players, Jenkins, has struggled with injuries throughout his career and he had just a half a sack during the Packers’ postseason run to the Super Bowl.

I hear Jason Babin being talked about like he’s Reggie White, when the guy never had six sacks in a season until last year, when he put up 12.5 in a contract year. I hear Vince Young being called a ‘talent’ when he was given away by the Titans, who went out of their way to pick up a washed up Matt Hasselbeck.

They also traded for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who has had 13 picks and four touchdowns in four seasons, but is a major liability against the run.

I think the Eagles will be a tough squad to deal with this season, but they need to get Desean Jackson in camp and Jeremy Maclin, who is recovering from mono, healthy before they even think about making the playoffs, let alone make a postseason run.
