Driver killed in crash near Wells

WELLS — A 27-year-old Matawan man died Sunday after his car went off the road and rolled into a drainage ditch two miles east of Wells early Saturday.

According to the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, Sean Stenzel was ejected from the automobile around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on Faribault County Road 32. Wells Fire Department, ambulance crews, Police Department and the state patrol arrived at the scene a short time later.

Stenzel, the only person in the car, was flown to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where he later died.

Faribault County Sheriff Mike Gormley said the cause of the rollover is undetermined, though speed could have been a factor.

Stenzel was a 2002 graduate of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva High School and worked as a carpenter.
