Emily Cech was born Nov. 14, 1914, to Louis and Josephine (Benesh) Belshan. She grew up on the family farm near Myrtle, Minn. Emily attended country school and graduated from Albert Lea High School. She also attended one year at Winona State College. On Nov. 15, 1937, she was united in marriage to Richard Cech in Albert Lea. The couple farmed together, and Emily enjoyed being a homemaker and lived on the farm for 75 years. She was an active member of Trondjhem Lutheran Church, belonged to WELCA, circle and quilting groups. While her children were growing up, Emily was an active 4-H leader and helped with all the club’s activities. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and canning her fruits and vegetables. Emily was an excellent cook and baker. She will especially be remembered for her wonderful Kolaches (Czech pastry) which she shared with friends and at family gatherings.
