A pair of area underclassmen put some points on the scoreboard to represent their schools at the Class A state track meet Friday and Saturday at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Bloom-ing Prairie sophomore Lisi Ingvalson and Hayfield freshman Lauren Burmeister each scored six points for finishing fourth in an individual event during Saturday’s Class A finals.
Burmeister, who entered the state meet ranked fourth in the triple jump, proved it with a leap of 35 feet 7.25 inches to finish fourth for the Viking track squad which narrowly missed qualifying for team state.
Burmeister also qualified for the 400-meter dash finals after running 58.99 seconds in Friday’s preliminary round. She finished in seventh – where she qualified – in 59.55 to score three team points.
Blooming Prairie’s Ingvalson represented the Blossom squad by taking fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. She qualified fifth out of Friday’s preliminary round in a time of 46.56, but stepped it up to take fourth overall in 46.32 in Saturday’s finale.
On the boys’ side of the state meet, only Blooming Prairie’s Kyle Verley advanced to the season-ending event in Blaine. Verley, a junior, finished Friday’s 200-meter dash preliminaries in 11th place in 23.11 seconds. Only the top eight qualify for the finals in individual events.
