Southland defends invitational title

ADAMS – Saturday was windy and rainy at the Cedar River Country Club in Adams for the Invitational Golf Tournament.

The schools at the tournament were Southland-Grand Meadow, Leroy-Ostrander, Chatfield and Kingsland. They were scheduled to play 18 holes but because of the wind, rain and the wet golf course, they played nine holes.

Southland defended their win from last year’s tournament coming in first. Coach Wayne Robertson was proud of the way his boys played.

"I was very pleased with the way the boys played, especially with the conditions of the course. It was nice to win this tournament two times in a row," Robertson said.

Southland’s score was 171, Chosen Valley of Chatfield 182, Leroy-Ostrander 185, and Kingsland 203.

The all-tournament team was meet medalist Ryan Bakken of Chatfield 39, Jeff

Thalberg, Southland-Grand Meadow 40, Erik Bakken, Chatfield 41, tied for fourth at 42 were Claleb Stroup, Southland-Grand Meadow and Nick Norby, Leroy-Ostrander. Sixth place was Gary Kiefer of Southland-Grand Meadow, 43.

The next meet for Southland-Grand Meadow is boys and girls golf today against Fillmore Central.
