Three new members of the Cedar Valley Services Inc.

Three new members of the Cedar Valley Services Inc. board of directors were welcomed at the CVS annual meeting on April 9.

Dan Hirst, Dan Darveaux and Robert Lovelady are the new directors.

Melinda Ewert is CVS board president. Other officers include Dennis Boik, vice president; and Bill Danielson, treasurer.

Fred A. Wellmann is secretary.

Other local directors include Bill Bodensteiner, Kathleen Campbell, Steve Jensen, Jack Keenan, Mike MacLean and Jerry Mohrfeld.

James Mueller is executive director.

Now in its 41st year, Austin-based CVS has realized several milestones the executive director told directors and staff. One example of its growth is the $10 million budget it has to pursue opportunities for the developmentally disabled.

"CVS is looking to replace a large contract it lost with several smaller new contracts," Mueller said of the past business year.

However, the CVS recycling efforts, which create jobs for the developmentally disabled continue to meet the demand. The agency was awarded a contract by the Mower County Board of Commissioners for curbside pickup of recyclables in the city of Austin and has added a new truck to fulfill the contract with the county.

It also has a contract with the county to perform recycling tasks at the Mower County Recycling Center, so the twin contracts – curbside pickup and recycling – are natural linkup.

Also last year, CVS was able to obtain a contract with Austin Packaging Co. Inc., while Mueller expects to be mutually benefit to both APC and the CVS clients.

The CVS laundry contract with Austin Medical Center continues to meet expectations.

All in all, Mueller said, "Cedar Valley Services Inc. enjoyed another very good year. We appreciate the support we receive."
