The Austin Police Department continues to monitor water levels in the city after an inch of rain fell overnight and more rains continued today.

According to Police Chief Paul M. Philipp, the water levels in the watersheds north of Austin had receded, but began rising again this morning.

Sensors monitor levels in Turtle Creek, Cedar River and Dobbins Creek and give authorities readings every 15 minutes.

Multiple charges filed

Aaron Charles Granholm, 19 of Austin, faces multiple charges after an incident outside Sterling Three Theatre in the Sterling Shopping Center Tuesday evening.

According to an Austin Police Department report, Granholm will be charged with criminal vehicular injury, third degree DWI, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and under age 21 drinking and driving.

Austin police were called to the Sterling Shopping Center at 8:59 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of a fight in progress.

The investigation revealed a fight took place and a 16-year-old juvenile female suffered an injury to her leg when a car backed over her.

The victim was taken to Austin Medical Center by a Gold Cross Ambulance Service crew.

No other injuries were reported and no other charges were filed.

Granholm is being held in the Mower County Jail, pending formal charges being filed.

When arrested Tuesday night, his blood alcohol content was .14, according to the police report.

Counterfeit bill found

Wells Fargo Bank of Austin reported receiving a counterfeit $20 bill in the deposit of an Austin business Tuesday.

According to an Austin Police Department report, the counterfeit bill was included in a deposit made by Taco John’s. The bill was the "new" style $20 denomination, which the U.S. Treasury Department has suggested in counterfeit-proof.

The bill will be turned over to the federal investigators.

Vehicles vandalized

Three cars were vandalized while parked in the south annex parking lot at Austin High School.

According to an Austin Police Department report, each vehicle suffered punctured tires.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the Austin-Mower County Law Enforcement Center (437-9400).

Car, cash, drugs seized

A traffic stop along Interstate 90 early Tuesday netted a large amount of marijuana and cash.

According to an Mower County Sheriff’s Department report, Deputy Mark Anderson stopped a vehicle east of the Highway 56 intersection along I-90 for speeding.

Deputy Jeff Ellis and canine unit Cleo were called to the scene to back-up Anderson. The canine unit immediately hit on an area of the vehicle after the driver consented to the search.

Seventy-one packets of a substance believed to be marijuana were found as well as $1,900 in cash.

The driver was identified as Antoinette T. Haynes, 30 of Chicago, Ill. Haynes will be charged by complaint summons. Her rental car was seized.

Lubricants taken

ADAMS – Osmundson Bros. Contractors was the victim of a burglary discovered Tuesday morning, when employees reported to work.

Taken in the burglary were bulk quantities of oil, other lubricants and transmission fluid in 5-gallon pails.

No estimate of the loss is known at this time, because an inventory of items is being taken, according to a Mower County Sheriff’s Department report.

Carrier shot by pellet gun

A mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Austin reported being shot by a BB gun.

The mail carrier told the Austin Police Department the shooting occurred March 30, while he was delivering mail in northwest Austin.

The carrier confronted two male juveniles, but they ran from the scene and escaped by climbing a fence in a backyard.

Later, an Austin Transportation Service school bus driver overheard a youth talking about the incident and reported that information to police.

Today, Austin police are slated to question a 14-year-old boy who bragged about the incident to other teenagers on a school bus.

The mail carrier was uninjured.
