An energy audit will help Austin schools become more efficient as a result of action taken Monday by the Austin School Board.
The board approved an agreement with Siemen’s Building Technologies, after a recommendation by the board’s facility committee.
The agreement will bring Siemen’s personnel into the district to do an energy audit and replace inefficient lighting fixtures, boiler units and ventilators districtwide.
The benefit of the agreement is rather than paying for the items over a period of time, the district will be able to pay for them right away and repay the cost of purchasing the items with the energy costs saved.
On Monday, Business Services Director Lori Volz said the next step will be to sign a letter of intent, conduct a comprehensive energy audit and identify the project scope. The final audit and project scope will then be brought before the school board in about two months.
