As Sen. Roger Moe described former state Sen. Pat Piper, she was the "mother to all of Minnesota’s children."

Indeed, the woman who has served this community since 1982, has become a well-recognized advocate for children and women.

Piper was elected in 1982 to the Minnesota House, and re-elected in 1984. She was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 1986, where she served until last year.

And although – like all old friends – we certainly didn’t see eye to eye on each issue, we respect and appreciate the years of service she has given the community.

Mower County is fortunate to have had a woman of such dedication and passion to serve the community. So too will it be fortunate to have Piper serve in other roles. She has indicated she would like to continue serving the community in a volunteer capacity.

Pat Piper has served as a role model for both lawmakers and private citizens.

Thank you, Pat, for your service to this community.
