LYLE – The Lyle Cancer Auction raised $45,000 this year, $18,000 more than last year and three times the amount raised in 1999.
"We have huge, gigantic numbers to report," organizer Gary Ziegler said of the success of Friday’s and Saturday’s auction at the Lyle Legion Club.
Top-selling items included a quilt donated in memory of Lucille Johnson that was auctioned for $1,500 and a tractor donated by Chuck Berg and purchased by Carol Kline for $1,300.
Ziegler reported that cash donations were up $11,000. In addition, a subcommittee organized a pool tournament, which generated $7,200 toward the auction.
"It was the result of the hard work of a lot of volunteers," Ziegler added.
The cancer auction is held annually in conjunction with the Eagles Cancer Telethon on KTTC Channel 10 in Rochester.
