School board set to elect new officers

New officers will be elected and new committee members will be appointed at the Austin School Board meeting on Wednesday.

New officers will be elected and new committee members will be appointed at the Austin School Board meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting also will tie up issues from last year and begin anew.
Looking to 2001, the school board will designate depositories for funds and the district’s official newspaper, as well as establish a date for a goal-setting work session.
Wells Fargo, US Bank and Sterling State Bank will be the depositories for the district’s various checking accounts.
The district will use US Bank, Wells Fargo, Sterling State Bank, Home Federal Savings & Loan, Security State Bank, First Farmers State Bank, Farmers and Merchants State Bank, Dain Bosworth, Merrill Lynch and the Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund for its investment fund accounts.
The board will discuss committee appointments for the following categories and committees:
n Negotiation: Austin Education Association, Austin Administration Association, Austin Association of Educational Assistants, Austin Food Service Employees, Austin Custodial Unit, Austin Principals Association, Austin Secretarial Unit.
n General: continuing education K-12 and secondary vocational, facilities, finances, legislative lobbying, meet and confer-AEA, meet and confer-principals, Minnesota High School League, personnel, policy revision, student involvement.
n Advisory: Area Learning Center Advisory Council, Community Services Advisory Council, Curriculum Advisory, Early Childhood/Family Education Advisory, High Potential Advisory Council, KSMQ Advisory, Staff Development, Technology Advisory, Wescott Field Advisory. n Community: Austin Area Chamber of Commerce education committee, Austin Park and Recreation Board, Cedar River Education District Board, Family Connections Joint Powers Board.
n Other: Graduation rule contact, legislative contact
In other business on Wednesday, the school board will hear a request by Austin High School’s wrestling team for approval of an athletic trip to Hudson, Iowa, on Jan. 13. Cost for the transportation is estimated at $300. The trip is a makeup for a previous weather-related cancellation.
