The Austin School Board expects to approve the 5.5 percent tax levy increase on Monday, which was discussed in detail at the board’s Dec. 4 Truth in Taxation meeting. The total dollar amount of the levy will be $6.9 million.

Additional approvals will be made on the proposed preliminary budget for 2001, including $38.35 million in revenues and $38.42 million in expenditures.

Expenditures include $450,000 to $500,000 to bring the high school annex smokestack into safety compliance. The next phase of the project includes the installation of a steel smokestack liner. With action the board hopes to take on Monday, bids should soon be made on the completion of this part of the project.

In other business, the board plans to approve competencies on 79 bus drivers in the district.
