Southland 62, Glenville-Emmons 42
ADAMS – Adam Nagele shot five three-pointers and racked up 29 points as Southland easily defeated Glenville-Emmons, 62-42, in action at the Rebel Classic.
Nagele collected 15 points in the first quarter alone to start off the game.
The Rebels jumped out to a 24-7 early lead, and kept an 18- to 20-point lead for most of the game, coach Greg Storey said.
"We played good defense basically the whole game," Storey added.
Also scoring for the Rebels were: Matt Decker, 8; Caleb Stroup, 6; Todd Osmundson, 6, Jason Boe, 5; Jeff Thalberg, 3; Pat Schneider, 3; and Steve Snyder, 3.
The Wolverines were led in scoring by Richie Mathis with 9 points (three 3-pointers in the second half); Nick Flatness, 7, and Andrew Graybrock, 7.
Scoring by quarters for Southland: 24, 36, 46 and 62; for Glenville-Emmons: 7, 17, 26 and 42.
Southland had 15 turnovers in the game, while Glenville-Emmons had 19. Rebounds were 31 for Southland and 18 for Glenville-Emmons.
Lyle/Pacelli 61, Grand Meadow 50
ADAMS – In a rematch of a game played Tuesday, Lyle/Pacelli bested Grand Meadow, 61-50, in action at the Rebel Classic at Southland High School on Friday afternoon.
Danny Greibrok led the scoring for L/P with 14 points, including four three-pointers. L/P’s Philip Halbach had 12 points.
Coach Gary Erlandson said all of L/P’s players got on the floor during the game.
The Superlarks were led in scoring by Mike Batt and Brian Gehling, both with 9 points.
Scoring by quarters for Lyle/Pacelli: 15, 33, 46 and 61; for Grand Meadow: 6, 21, 30 and 50.
Austin 59, Owatonna 49
OWATONNA – The Austin Packers racked up 23 points in the first quarter and overtook the Owatonna Huskies, 59-49.
The Packers jumped out to an 11-2 start early in the game. Austin has shot 30 three-pointers on the season so far, with an average of 7.5 per game so far.
Austin next takes on New Prague on Tuesday.
Hayfield 44, Chatfield 37
ADAMS – Hayfield outscored Chatfield, 44-37, during action at the Rebel Classic at Southland High School on Friday.
Girls basketball
Austin 57, Owatonna 56
Elisa Bue shot 18 points to lead the Austin Packers over the Owatonna Huskies, 57-56, in girls basketball Friday night.
The Packers were behind at the end of the first two quarters, but pulled out to one-point leads for the last two quarters. Scoring by quarters for Austin: 14, 27, 41 and 57; for Owatonna: 16, 32, 40 and 56.
No one fouled out of the game for either team.
Also scoring for the Packers were: Stacy Fisher, 15; Jenna Cummins, 12; Stephanie Eslinger, 6; Amy Kelly, 3; Bridget Burzinski, 2; and Jana Madson, 1.
Owatonna’s leading scorer was Sarah Drayer with 21 points.
The Packer girls play next on Tuesday at New Prague.
Glenville-Emmons 56, Houston 38
GLENVILLE – Holly Herr and Aly Rayman both shot 15 points to lead Glenville-Emmons to a 56-38 win over the Hurricanes of Houston on Friday.
The Wolverines improved their mark to 4-3 for the season and 2-1 in the conference.
Scoring by quarters for Glenville-Emmons: 15, 19, 40 and 56; for Houston: 7, 20, 24 and 38.
Stewartville 50, Blooming Prairie 37
BLOOMING PRAIRIE – Abbey Bergstrom racked up 12 points, but the Awesome Blossoms of Blooming Prairie lost to Stewartville, 50-37, on Friday.
Also leading in scoring for the Blossoms was Allison Trom with 7 points and 10 rebounds.
Blooming Prairie was 9 of 26 from the free-throw line and Stewartville was 20 of 31 from the free-throw line, including being 14 out of 18 in the fourth quarter from the free-throw line.
The Blossoms were 14 out of 42 from the field, while the Tigers were 15 out of 40 from the field.
Scoring by quarters for Blooming Prairie: 4, 11, 9 and 13; scoring for Stewartville: 12, 9, 13 and 16.
Blooming Prairie’s record now is 1-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The team was scheduled to play Big Lake at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Saturday and will play the Hayfield Vikings on Tuesday at home.
Girls hockey
Austin 4, Faribault 1
FARIBAULT – Melissa Dickhut’s hat trick led the Austin Packers girls hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Faribault on Friday.
Dickhut’s first goal was unassisted and came at 12:15 in the second period. She came back with another goal scored on a power play at 12:52 in the third period and then again collected her hat trick with an assist from Courtney Huges at 14:13.
There was no scoring in the first period. AHS had 8 shots on goal while the Falcons had 6 shots on goal.
In the second period, the Packers had 17 shots on goal, compared to 4 shots on goal for Faribault.
"We had a much better second period than the first," coach Denny Bray said.
In the third period, Sarah Brady scored a goal at 6:25 for Austin, with an assist by Lisa Snyder. Faribault responded with a goal at 8:17 by Lisa Keele, with an assist by Katie Myos.
The Packer girls were one for three on the power play. They went three for three in killing off penalties.
Overall, Austin had 39 shots on goal to the Falcons’ 17. In the third period alone, AHS had 14 shots on goal and Faribault had 7.
Kristine Swancutt logged 38 saves for the Packers.
Scoring by periods for Austin: 0, 1 and 3; for Faribault: 0, 0 and 1.
The Austin girls next take on Owatonna at home at Riverside Arena on Tuesday.
