After months of planning and hard work, an important cog of Apex Austin is ready to open its doors. That cog of course is the Welcome Center.
Described as being the hub of a wheel with spokes stretching out into the community, the aim of the Welcome Center is simply to welcome and help acclimate new people to Austin to our community. It is a cutting-edge idea and one that should be embraced, if only because it is proactive.
The Welcome Center also has hired Lilianna Silvestry to be its director. Silvestry appears to be a talented individual, who should prove a valuable asset to this changing community.
The residents of Austin need to give Silvestry and the Welcome Center a warm welcome and provide support. In turn the Welcome Center needs to stick to its plan to "connect newcomers to resources, not replicate the services they provide."
If the Welcome Center doesn’t duplicate government and the people of Austin provide support, the center will succeed.
