The Austin girls tennis team made a clean sweep of its opponents at the Austin quadrangular Saturday.

The Packers downed New Ulm and Winona Cotter 4-3, then polished off Burnsville 7-0 to take a 3-0 record on the day.

"The ladies played some tough matches and their endurance was put to the test," Packer coach Levon Larson said. "Our singles play was outstanding during every matchup."

Austin’s No. 1 singles player, Laurie Alonso, was hardly challenged on the day. She lost a total of four games and won four of her six total sets by 6-0 scores.

Amy Kelly and Emily Bue showed similar dominance and second and third singles, winning all of their sets in each match.

The Packers’ doubles teams struggled a bit, Larson said, because he juggled the lineup.

"The doubles teams were at least able to stay in their matches and put up a strong fight," he said.

Next up for the Packers is Winona at home at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
