ROSE CREEK – Dustin Davis Rosel, 20 of Rose Creek, was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision Monday morning.
According to a Mower County Sheriff’s Department report, Rosel was alone in his Mazda automobile westbound on Mower County No. 4, rounding the north curve near the County No. 52 intersection.
A pickup truck driven by Cory Richard Kraft, 20 of rural Austin, was eastbound on the county highway, when the collision occurred.
Authorities speculated the young men were each en route to their places of employment at the time of the collision.
Rosel was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by the Austin Fire Department personnel using their Jaws of Life equipment.
Kraft suffered multiple injuries and was air-lifted from the accident scene by a Mayo One air ambulance. Today, he is reported in fair condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester after surgery Monday. He suffered head injuries, broken ribs and a collapsed lung among other injuries, according to the accident report.
A Minnesota State Patrol accident reconstructionist will investigate the fatal accident.
Child finds wallet
An unidentified child found a wallet containing $100, and the wallet was returned to its owner.
The child informed his mother, and the pair visited the Austin-Mower County Law Enforcement Center to turn over the wallet with its contents.
Joshua Jones claimed the wallet later Monday and expressed his appreciation, according to an Austin Police Department report.
Sex offender jailed
Carmi Santo Lunetta, 35, is in custody and faces gross misdemeanor charges for failing to register as a convicted sex offender.
According to an Austin Police Department report, an Olmsted County probation officer notified local authorities Lunetta may be living with a woman in Austin.
When officers visited the woman’s apartment, they found Lunetta.
The man told police he was working for a house painting firm and vacationing with the woman in Austin.
He was taken into custody and jailed, pending a court appearance for failing to register as a convicted sex offender upon changing addresses.
