Timmy DeBoer, 48

Timmy (Tim) DeBoer, 48 of Austin, died Saturday morning, July 1, 2000, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, due to injuries received in an auto accident.

He is survived by his wife Frances, Austin; daughters, Amie DeBoer and special friend Jerry Hoesing, Austin, Sarah DeBoer, Austin, Michelle DeBoer and special friend, Cole Hastings, Austin; father, Merton DeBoer, Austin; brothers and sister-in-law, Hal (Sarah) DeBoer, Moravia, N.Y., Sidney DeBoer, Austin; sisters and brothers-in-law, LaVonne (Phil) Jackson, Rapid City, S.D., Ginger (Milo) Taylor, Truckee, Calif., Hope (Tom) Wurster, Medford, Holly Allen, Austin; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

· Service: A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Louis Cook officiating.

· Visitation: Family will greet friends half an hour before the service at the church and at a luncheon at the farm following the service.

Lillian Gullickson, 90

Lillian R. Gullickson, 90, Austin, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at her home.

She was born Nov. 3, 1909 in Freeborn County, to Ole E. and Ingleborg (Frondahl) Hyland. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Lillian attended District 28 school in Freeborn County. She was united in marriage to Edward G. Gullickson on Aug. 10, 1929 at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. To this union three children were born. Lillian was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also had a special love for flowers. Her garden was a source of pride and joy to her. She has been a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin for 63 years.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane (Kay) Gullickson, Austin, Robert (Sharon) Gullickson, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Lois Flaherty, Austin; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Nordland, Austin; six nephews and ten nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward G. Gullickson on Jan. 13, 1999; a brother, Clarence Hyland; three sisters, Hazel Knudsen, Pearl Tufte, Edna Tufte; and a son-in-law, James Flaherty.

· Service: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Harold Usgaard officiating. Organist will be Ruth Monson and the soloist will be Erin Schumacher.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery. Honorary casket bearers will be her six granddaughters, Sue Cline, Julie Willmert, Janice Wright, Jeanine Nelson, Mary Flaherty and Cindy LeMay. Casket bearers will be her six grandsons, Kim Gullickson, Mark Flaherty, Todd Gullickson, Michael Flaherty, Dean Gullickson and Joel Gullickson.

· Visitation: From 4 to 6 p.m. today at Mayer Funeral Home and at the church a half an hour before the service at the church.

There will be no reviewal.

The family prefers memorials to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Douglas Shatek, 78

Douglas Henry Shatek, 78, Austin, died Sunday evening at Burr Oak Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Fort Worth, Texas to Henry L. and Bessie (Schoolcraft) Shatek. He married Elizabeth G. Nelson Oct. 10, 1941, in Austin. After serving four years with the Army in World War II, Douglas was employed by Hormel Foods Corp. for many years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sons, James (Peggy) Shatek, Warner Robins, Georgia, Jerry (Buffy) Shatek, Sheridan, Wy., John Shatek, Austin; daughter, Joann Dombrock, Austin; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Vernon Shatek, Austin; sister, Mary (Walt) Callahan, Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister.

· Service: A memorial service will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home chapel on Friday morning at 11:30 a.m. with Mr. Jon Best officiating.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery

There will be no visitation.

Dean Hemmer, 91

Dean F. Hemmer, 91, died July 4, 2000, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

He was born Jan. 22, 1909, in Austin, to John and Nellie (Chandler) Hemmer. Dean married Irene Hopperstad on May 25, 1929, in Owatonna. Together they lived in Austin all of their lives. Dean worked at Hormel Foods Corp. for nearly 50 years. He was baptized and became a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in 1993. Dean was a very kind and generous man with a very witty and unusual humor. He taught himself to play the harmonica and enjoyed playing for the residents on his wing at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home. He like fishing with his family at his cabin near Faribault, and he loved playing cards at the Arcade in downtown Austin.

He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Audrey Meyer, Owatonna, Joan (Anton "Bud") Dammen, Austin; grandsons, Steven and Jennie Dammen, Richard Meyer, and Michael Dammen; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil (Mildred) Hemmer, Austin, Don (Doris) Hemmer, Austin; nieces, nephew and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Hemmer and brother, David Hemmer.

· Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Kristin K. Wee officiating.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Casket bearers will be Carlton Cook, Michael Dammen, Anton "Bud" Dammen, Richard Meyer, Stephen Dammen, Jamie Dammen.

· Visitation: At Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Saturday for one hour before the service at the chapel.

Francis Wilke, 76

Frances H. Wilke, 76, formerly of 1607 Sixth St. SE, Austin died July 4, 2000, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

· Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Don Deines officiating.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery, Austin.

· Visitation: Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday.

Laura Wuertz, 97

Laura A. Wuertz, 97, formerly of Waltham, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Tender Care Nursing Home, Tawas City, Mich.

She was born Nov. 15, 1902, on a farm in rural Claremont, Steele County, the daughter of William and Magdalene (Hockemeyer) Jackel. She was baptized in early infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Claremont. She also attended parochial and rural school in the area. On Aug. 31, 1927, she was united in marriage to Werner E. Wuertz of Waltham at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Claremont. This union was blessed with three sons and one daughter. They farmed on Rural Route 5, Austin, until the death of Werner March 26, 1964, after which Laura moved to Brownsdale. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brownsdale, past member of Ladies’ Aid, Circle and a long time member of the past Neighborhood Friendship Club.

She is survived by her children, Duane Wertz, National City, Mich. Barbara (Clifford) Kuxhaus, Cedar park, Texas; grandchildren, Holly (Ed) Pierce, Wendy (Greg) Johnson, Jonathan (Lee) Kuxhaus, Leah (Kris) Kanatzar and Paul (Karen) Kuxhaus; seven great-grandchildren.

· Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Brownsdale, with the Rev. Robert L. Finch officiating.

· Interment: Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Waltham. Casket bearers are Paul Wachlin, Vernon Jackel, Peter Dulitz, Donald Jackel, Lavern Ehlers, Leonard "Bud" Blanchard.

· Visitation: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

· Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Lutheran Hour radio show or Our Savior Lutheran Church Mission Fund.
