Austin native Dave ‘Chico’ Ploof will be back in town this Wednesday when his Rapid City Post 22 squad will come to Marcusen Park to take on Austin Post 91 at 7 p.m.

Ploof was a member of the 1953 Austin Post 91 American Legion state championship team and he was a member of the 1954 Austin High School team that won a state title.

Ploof, who graduated from AHS in 1955, was selected to the All-State baseball team while playing under coach Dick Seltz.

In Rapid City, Ploof coached Post 22 to 18 straight state titles, a national record. His teams played in the American Legion World Series eight times.

Ploof is in the Austin High School Hall of Fame and South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.
