In their only home meet of the season, the Packers downed Century and Albert Lea by winning 11 of 17 events.

After finishing a close second to Albert Lea in the opening 4 x 800-meter relay, Austin junior Drew Oesterle got the Packers righted with a win in the 110-meter hurdles (0:17.1 seconds).

That set off a run of nine straight Austin wins, including Oesterle again in the 300 intermediate hurdles (0:44.2).

Senior Mike Milli also paved the way for Austin, starting off the team’s 4 x 200 win (1:34) and taking firsts in the 200 dash (23.4) and the long jump (17 feet, 7 inches).

Other runners in that 4 x 200 were Jaime Zavala, Bryan Larson and Horton.

Lee Nordby dominated the distance events for the Packers, winning the 1,600 (5:00) and the 800 (2:14.2).

Larson won the 400 dash in 0:52.4.

The Packers also took the 4 x 100 relay (Tony McDermott, Raymond Bissen, Zachary Aberg and Bradley Hirsch) in 0:48.0 and the 4 x 400 (Milli, Larson, Oesterle and Zavala) in 3:48.3.

Erichson leads Austin girls

The Austin girls’ track and field team placed fourth in the four-team Albert Lea Invite won by Century on Tuesday.

But, once again, eighth grader Brittany Erichson couldn’t be stopped.

She made up 30 meters on the anchor leg of the 4 x 800 relay, giving the team of Natalie Bowers, Lisa Bue, Emily Bue and Erichson a win in 10:16.56.

Erichson the picked up the Packers sole individual win of the day, taking the 800 in 2:21.29. Erichson trailed until late in the race, which she won by 2 seconds.

Austin boys’ tennis team falls

The Austin boys’ tennis team fell 7-0 and dropped to 0-7, 0-4 in the Big Nine.

Coach Deb Hoyt said her young team is hardly rolling over.

"We’re hitting with our opponent and there’s been a lot of long points," she said, "but we don’t have the experience to close it out the games when we need to."

Lyle/Pacelli track and field results

The Lyle/Pacelli boys’ and girls’ track and field team each finished last at the Faribault Academies Invite on Tuesday.
