What a wonderful idea. A Military History Day will be April 22 in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Phil Fleischer, an Army veteran and military historian, has been planning the event, which will have a theme of "Honoring Our Veterans – Past and Present."

Fleischer organized a group of fellow Vietnam War veterans a year ago and it proved successful for the vets and their families. He hopes the Military History Day will be an event to remember, too.

Various military groups will put on displays of equipment – including a model submarine – along the main street of St. Ansgar during the event. Recruiters also will be in attendance from every branch of the military.

The event will prove important because many will get to learn about the military’s involvement in history. The equipment displays, while popular with adults and children, also serve as a reminder that our military units are ready to serve at a moment’s notice.

Plan to attend St. Ansgar’s Military History Day. You’ll learn a little, earn the respect of our veterans and military service people and show your support for those who put their lives on the line for the protection of our lives and freedom.
