The Austin girls’ hockey team was awarded the third seed in the Section 1 hockey playoffs.
With the seed, the Packers get a first-round bye in the 13-team section tournament.
The Packers finished the year with an impressive 5-0 road win over Mankato Friday night. They finished the regular season with a 12-10 record, 9-5 in the Big Nine.
Owatonna is the top seed and Rochester Mayo No. 2.
Austin will host the winner of the tilt between sixth-seed Rochester John Marshall and 11th-seed Waseca in the quarterfinals Friday Night at Riverside Arena.
Other first round games taking place Wednesday have No. 4 Lakeville hosting No. 13 Dodge County, No. 5 Farmington versus No. 12 Northfield, No. 7 Red Wing against No. 10 Winona, and No. 8 Faribault hosting No. 9 Albert Lea.
