For a sixth year, the Austin Fire Department won bragging rights, defeating the police department 16-11 on Saturday during their annual fundraiser softball game at Todd Park.

The two departments raised just under $2,000 from the annual fundraiser. The money was raised in conjunction with the 5K run ,which was new to the event this year.

The money was given to the Austin School District to help offset costs for security doors installed this year at the elementary schools as well as a small donation of $200 to the Community Against Bullying who worked the concession stand.

The five top runners in the 5K were: 1. Cole Prescott; 2. John Schneider; 3. Rod Pesch; 4. Dustin Wollenburg and 5. Mitchell Mayer while one women’s siderthe winners were: 1. Shelley Thompson; 2. Sandy Fadness; 3. Katie Bergland; 4. Tasia Martinson and 5. Terrey Butts.

Next year’s event is already scheduled for Sept. 8.
