Tuesday night Rhianna Jacobs and Bobee Jo Lang each recorded hat tricks and goalie Kristina Swancutt won her first varsity game with a shutout, 8-0, against the Winona Winhawks.

This comes after a big 3-1 win over John Marshall last Thursday at Riverside Arena.

Jacobs also had three assists on the night, giving her a total of six points. Kellie Petersen and Jessica Peck got the other two goals for the Packers. Six other Austin players recorded assists – Melissa Dickhut, Lisa Snyder, Courtney Hughes, Sarah Brady, Jamie Heller and Traci Petersen.

Austin had 60 shots on goal, making it a busy night for Winona goaltender Courtney Brooke.

Lang and Jacobs scored in the first; then Jacobs, Lang and Petersen scored in the second.

Peck scored 10 seconds into the third. Later, Jacobs added an unassisted shorthanded goal and Lang capped the night with a power-play goal off an assist from Jacobs.

Swancutt made eight saves in the game. She had great help in front of her. The Packers killed off four penalties in the game including a minute-and-a-half two-player advantage in the first period.

"The girls are skating hard and came into the game on a high after their big win over John Marshall," Austin coach Denny Bray said. "The team really looked good tonight. They hustled out there. They’re now looking forward to Thursday’s night game with Mayo."

Austin (3-3, 3-0 in the Big Nine) was unceremoniously dumped by the Spartans in the semifinals of last year’s sections.
