Issues is one of KSMQ-TV’s locally-produced public affairs programs, which airs on a quarterly basis, and explores issues that affect area viewers.

The Monday evening discussion focuses on what is the Profiles of Learning educational curriculum, who developed the profiles, why it was implemented and how it is impacting teachers and students.

"We felt that the community needed to be aware of what is happening with the Profiles of Learning graduation standards in our area schools and how it is impacting or not impacting children," said Rodd Boyken, Issues’ producer.

Viewers will have the opportunity to call and have their questions answered by the panelists during the hour-long program at 1-800-658-2539.

Panelists include area educators and legislators: State Rep. Dan Norman (R-Albert Lea), Renee Doyle, president of the Maple River Education Coalition, Candace Raskin, director of curriculum for Austin Public Schools, State Senator Kenric Scheevel (R-Preston), Bill Wenmark, a Minnetonka school board member.

Karen Wright, media specialist from Minnesota State University at Mankato, will be the guest moderator.

KSMQ-TV can be found on channel 15 or any local cable channel, including channel 12 in Austin.
