Alexander C. Engles, 21 of 506 Oakland Ave. East, suffered a black eye when he was punched by an apparent burglar Thursday night in Austin.

According to an Austin Police Department report, Engles lives in a ground-floor apartment near B&J Bar, 504 Oakland Ave. East.

Engles told investigators he heard a loud "thump" in the apartment above his own at 8:38 p.m. Thursday.

When he went to investigate, he discovered an upstairs window open in the apartment, which was, at the time, unoccupied.

Upon further investigation, Engles spotted two individuals leaping from a nearby roof and he gave chase. After a brief run, one of the individuals stopped, turned around and punched Engles in the face. Then he ran off with his accomplice.

Engles told investigators the pair were young Hispanic males, described as between 5:6 and 5:9 in height and wearing dark clothing.

Nothing was reported missing from the apartment and the investigation continues.

Drug deal is a bust

Charles Barlow, Jr., 21, Austin, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

According to an Austin Police Department report, Barlow agreed to make a cocaine sale to an unidentified individual and a meeting was set up in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Austin.

Barlow offered the substance to the undercover agent, saying it was a half ounce of crack cocaine and he wanted $800 for it.

When questioned about the transaction, Barlow said the substance offered as cocaine was "crushed-up Tylenol.

The arrest occurred at 6:28 p.m. Thursday.
