Census 2000 is about to begin. By April, offices in places like Rochester will have 1,000 workers to help tally the number of people in each community around the state, and around the country.

The census helps bring millions, even billions of dollars in federal money to the state, to be spent in individual communities. Censuses also allow businesses to see profiles of communities, to decide whether it would be worth their while to build and hire there.

Stand up and be counted next year. Don’t hide from the Census Bureau. The information you give is confidential for 72 years. There is no reason to dodge this counting, and every reason in the world to take part in it.
