The Awesome Blossom got into the end zone three times in the second quarter and that would be all they needed in a 19-8 win over Martin County West in Blooming Prairie.

The Blossoms started their 19 point quarter with a one-yard plunge by Kody Thurnau. The score capped off a 14-play 97 yard drive. Jeremy Wangen made runs of 16 and 26 yards in the length of the field drive.

Blossom quarterback Nick Nelson then threw for two touchdown passes for the next two BP scores. The first covered 60 yards to Bryan Kramer. He then hit Glenn Valek with a 32-yard strike with two and a half minutes left in the half. Noah Smith was successful on the kick.

Martin County scored midway through the fourth quarter on a four-yard run by Josh Peterson. Zack Peterson ran the conversion in for two more points. Martin County threatened to score again getting to within 20 yards of the goal line with less than a minute to play but the BP defense made the big stops to clinch the victory.

Nelson was 4-of-12 for 102 yards with no interceptions. The Blossoms gained 432 total yards. Jon Krejci lead the ground game with 118 yards on 11 carries . Wangen carried the ball 15 times for 87 yards. Thurnau 14 for 67 and Kramer 10 for 50. He caught two passes for anther 70 yards.

The BP defense gave up 250 yards. 153 on the ground and 97 through the air.

The Blossoms head into the postseason with a 5-3 mark. Who they will play and where in the first round will be determined tonight by the outcome of Belle Plaine’s game with Sibley East.

Spring Grove 14

The Rebels showed the Lions what they are all about with the big SEC win. They will have to show them once more on Tuesday as the two teams will meet up in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, again in Adams. The Rebels are now 4-1 at home with only a last minute loss to Rushford-Peterson the blemish on their record. They are 0-3 on the road and finished 3-4 in the Southeast Conference.

The Rebels score two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters. They missed their first for conversion with two failed passes and two kicks before converting on their last two-point conversions.

Southland got things rolling with Adam Chapek capping off a 10-play 70 yard drive with a two yard run into the end zone. Quarterback Cyle Erie then ran it in from 24 yards out on the eight play of a drive. The first seven plays covered 27 yards.

In the second quarter Chapek ran it in from seven and 32 yards. He ran for 113 yards on 18 carries.

The first play from scrimmage resulted in Southland’s fifth touch down of the night. Erie hit Jason Johnson for the score. The play covered 63 yards. Erie was 4-of-6 for 110 yards. He threw one interception.

Spring Grove then scored on the next play from scrimmage which also covered 63 yards. It was a rush by Josh Meyer.

On the fourth play from scrimmage in the half it was Todd Osmundson running it in from 47 yards out. Osmundson averaged 15.4 yards on his five rushes on the night.

As a team Southland rushed for 284 yards. They had 394 total yards in the game. Spring Grove totaled 282 yards, 182 passing and 100 rushing.
