After only six months in operation, Ruby’s Place has closed.

The family-style restaurant, owned by Oak Park Mall marketing director Shan Kehret and her husband, Dayton Kehret, closed Saturday, Sept. 10.

Located on the east side of the mall’s main entrance in the former site of Johnny’s Tap Room, Ruby’s opened March 21.

According to a Ruby’s Place manager, the lagging economy and the addition of Pizza Ranch across from the mall on 18th Ave. NW in July hurt Ruby’s.

The manager said the restaurant had a six-month lease, and they chose not to renew it. There are no plans for another business in the location, the manager said.

The restaurant had 10 employees when it closed.
