It was too little, too late for the Grand Meadow boys basketball team as it fell to Glenville/Emmons (9-5 overall, 5-4 SEC) 63-59 in GM Monday.
The Superlarks (8-9 overall, 4-7 SEC) trailed 38-28 at the break and Ethan Yost’s six threes were not enough to get them ahead as they trailed by as many as 15.
“We simply didn’t come out with the energy that we needed to win the game tonight,” GM head coach Chad Burmester said. “Coming out of the second half I really felt that if we could pick up our intensity and execute our game plan we could make it a game. Unfortunately we came out flat and made some of the same mistakes we were making in the first half.”
The Larks switched their defense to force some turnovers and get some easy baskets to get back in the game late.
“This team is really starting to come together and play well for spurts, now if we can play well the entire game we should really start to see an improved team heading down the home stretch,” Burmester said.
GM scoring: Ethan Yost, 20; Killian Smith, 17; Mike Gehling, 14; Aveonce Rowe, 5; Bryce Benson, 2; Zac Finley, 1; free throws: 43 percent (6-for-14)
