Grand Meadow middle hitter Cortney Olson proved to be too much for Lyle/Pacelli as the Superlarks bested the Athletics 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16 in a volleyball match in Pacelli Gym Tuesday.

Olson, a junior, put down 17 kills and GM junior Audra Durhman added a season-high 13 kills.

“We had trouble handling (Olson),” L/P head coach Lindsey Leif said. “Ann Rysavy would get up and try to block her, but she’d be eight inches over the block and she’d hammer it down or paint the line.”

Autumn Thorsen had 37 set assists as she ran the GM offense and spread the ball around. The Larks (3-8 overall, 1-4 SEC) had to come back to get their first two wins of the night.

“We had to play catch-up and our girls did a good job of not giving up in any of the games,” GM head coach Michael Keefe said. “We got it to our setter and she did a nice job of getting it to our hitters. We’re starting to feel more confident as a team.”

Rysavy had 14 kills and five ace blocks to lead L/P (3-12 overall, 2-4 SEC) which was close in each of the first three games.

“We played pretty flawless with them for the first few games and then we made some hitting errors in the last game,” Leif said. “I’m not disappointed in how the girls played and I thought they did well.”
